One of my favorite concepts that never made the cut was called the "Be" Box in which each side had a blurb about different states of being and tying it back to a feature of the thermostat. It also focused more heavily on the smartphone control. Be Wise was about saving money through smart monitoring, Be Cool was about creating presets of different 'blasts' of cool and warm air on a single tap, etc. Some of this concept carried over into the final design - but I thought this was a much more deliberate and edgier way of telling the story.
